Signs that your cat is hot
Perhaps the best way to know that an unpaid cat is losing heat is to know when it’s getting hot. The signs that your cat is hot are very obvious and she loses heat when she is not hot. When it’s hot, she appears to be hijacked by her hormones in a very powerful way. When the heat goes away, she will probably recover and fall asleep.
Your cat will probably get rid of the heat every other week of mating. The warmer months are when your cat is hot, usually spring and autumn. She doesn’t get hot in the cold season.
Signs that your cat is hot
She begins to bleed from her vagina, it may not be obvious as it is for the dog. Her vulva is swollen and she may urinate more. She also sprays a lot of her scent around the house to seduce a male cat. She sprays the ground upwards instead of downwards. She becomes very affectionate and spends a lot of time rolling, rubbing against you, meowing and making phone calls. She can even scream a lot if she can’t get out. You may notice a male cat hanging around your property.
Mating
Just because your cat mates once in the heat doesn’t mean it’s out of the heat. Cats usually get hot for about 7 days, during which time they can mate with multiple Tom cats. She can also get pregnant with all of those Toms.
Your cat may not have a fever, but it is best to see a veterinarian because you may have a condition called pyometra.
Your cat can come and go every other week during the mating season, unless you are pregnant. She is definitely not free from the heat as she can get pregnant again while breastfeeding.
Do you want to free your cat from the heat?
Was her cat’s frivolous attitude sufficient? If she’s worried about you going out all night and staying with Tom in your neighborhood, you can ask your vet to inject hormones to relieve her from the fever. Ideally, the best thing you can do for a cat is to have it undergo contraceptive neutering. Unless you are a breeder, the world really doesn’t need kittens anymore.
The heat cycle can be a process of trials for those who are not breeding for profit. The best thing you can do for your cat’s health and well-being is to have your cat undergo contraceptive neutering. That way, you don’t have to worry about how to tell your cat that it’s not hot.
