Why the Lion King in the jungle?

So why are lions considered kings of the jungle? When I was a kid, I wondered about this for quite some time. In fact, they are quite sociable and live in a group called Pride. We are proud to have about 10 to 15 lions, of which only a few are fully grown lions. The others are Lioness and Cubs.
