The origin of cookie jars began in England. Originally known as a biscuit jar, its first use began at the end of the 18th century. These early cookie jars, commonly found in grocery stores, were usually made of glass with a metal lid. The earlier type was a cylindrical shape with decorations painted with flowers and leaves. It was until 1930 that stone tools became the main ingredient in American cookie jars.
The first ceramic cookie jar was made by a brush pottery company in Zanesville, Ohio. This green jar, named “cookies” on the front, began to tend to have the word “brush USA” on all jars. Since then (1930s), different cookies have been produced in different forms, representing different intellectual characters. The most prominent period of cookie jar production was between 1940 and 1970.
